Painted Patio Floor

This is my side patio. Clearly, it needed some work. The easiest way to do that I decided, was to paint the very dirty concrete ground.

Boom! Instantly better. But wait, I’m not done yet. With the help of my assistant Cooper (pictured below), five rolls of painters tape and lot of mathematics later…

A pattern was born.

I added a giant goldfish for good measure and a brand new patio was born!

A Painting for Rose

Adoption is expensive. It’s a horrid truth. We are blessed to know a family – adopting a second child, the sister of their first adopted daughter. To help with the expenses I made a painting to be sold at their silent auction.

It’s not what I set out to do, but I’m happy with the end result.

Scalloped Hallway

My hallway was looking a little boring. I’m not one for plain old white walls. So I got out some cardboard, a pencil and some watered down black paint and got to work. Using a cardboard circle, I drew on the scallop pattern on the wall. Then, with a paint brush I traced over the pencil pattern in my now signature painterly way.

I am also working on a collection of family photographs that I hope will soon cover the wall.

X Ray Light Boxes

Apparently, trying to display xrays in your home is not a problem for most people. It was however, for me. So off I went trying to find an inexpensive light box to hang that would be big enough. I came up empty handed.

So I though, how hard would it be to make them? Turns out, it’s pretty complicated. With may a trip to Home Depot, Michaels and a glass store under our belt, we were finally able to put all the pieces together. Including wiring fluorescent…

And minor construction. But damn if wasn’t worth it!

Now we have two framed light boxes with interchanging xrays over our living room couch! It creates quite the eerie, yet cozy glow to any home!

Mermaid: A Short Film

With the success of our last short film, Shortcake, our team decided it was high time to do another. Mermaid is the next installment! I was a great practice in important things such as swimming underwater and trying to remain somewhat attractive, which is nearly impossible. We are very happy with how it turned out and as soon as we gain the rights to some music, it will be available to the world! Until then, here are some pictures from the shoot.

Halloween at Council Chaos

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I usually go decorating crazy to celebrate, and this year was no exception. It is an easy task though, seeing as our home is always decorated on the, shall we say, eerie side. We decided we must have a gathering of friends in order to share in our holiday spirit.

Big beautiful pictures of our house tour are after the jump! First off, the hallway. Bats come out of the closets and fly down the corridor. Red light sets the mood right away. I bought and dyed a hundred yards of gauze to mummify the hallway. Most of it however,

Went to the canopy in the kitchen. The gauze is darned with handmade spiders from years passed.

Snack table, centered with a spicy whiskey punch. Next room up is the bathroom.

Glow in the dark blood splatter in the shower was set off by blacklights. A low, but distinct heartbeat came from the cabinets in order to freak out anyone who dared to close the door.

And no Halloween would be complete without a little Shining reference. Next is the bedroom.

It’s no secret, Dexter is my favorite show. So we made the bedroom a kill room fit for Dexter himself.

And unfortunately, a mannequin had to die for the cause.

She probably deserved it. And the room was lite of course, by our Mercy sign.

On to the living room!

X-Rays lit the room, darned with ravens, a photo booth and if you look closely, our mannequin Matilda the Unfortunate.

Mercy Sign

When I get the idea that I can make something myself, however crazy, I rarely can get that idea out of my stubborn brain. That is precisely what happened when I got the idea to make a lighted sign. I was thinking -

something you could find in the Boneyard in Vegas. So off I go to my favorite place, Home Depot, to see what there is to see. It took about 10 trips to the Depot and four different employee pow wows about electrical, wood types and bulbs, but finally I got to the painting stage.

Basically what you see here is a 6′ x 2.5′ piece of pine that I am painting.This is Grace Rex and I with the final paint job.

And then I drilled the holes and strung the electricity to make it look like this!Turned out better then I thought it would! We figured out a way to mount it on our wall too, which was challenging because I was pretty heavy.
Now it has a happy home hanging over our desks. Lord have Mercy!

Skeleton Pigeon

I had this giant canvas that was eating away at my soul. I just could not come up with (and stick with) anything that would fit on a canvas larger then I was. 10 months went by and three different designs were sketched out and some even painted – just to have it gessoed over again. It was bad. So I decided to go back to my roots: simple graphics that often include skeletons.

Seeing as I was making it up as I went along, the pigeon came first. Then the flowers, and finally a border to tie it all together.It now looks something like this, hanging on our outside wall. Overall I am happy with my little…well…huge bird. And I broke though the large scale wall!! No canvas is safe from me now!

Blood Splatter Curtains

Our curtains were white, very white. Against white walls. White is the death of me. Something had to be done.

So, with a paint, dye, water mixture I went to work. Using a straw I splattered some fake blood all over those bad boys! With that said, I really don’t recommend the straw method. I sucked up some mixture, got sick, and dyed my whole mouth crimson.

But it was worth it. Just a little bit of blood goes a long way.

Dexter, eat your heart out.

Stick Necklaces

Driftwood and I are good friends. I picked up some lovely little pieces last time I went to Malibu and decided to make them into charms. I made two very simple necklaces using only gold chain and gold wire. I love the beauty of the water beaten wood so much I wanted to keep them as minimalistic as possible.

No jump rings or even clasps.

Yeah, they’re sticks, but they are pretty sticks! More to come, as soon as I go back to Malibu…eventually…
